Archaeological discoveries across eastern and central Georgia reveal grape seeds genetically identical to modern Rkatsiteli, dating back 6,000\u20138,000 years, proving its ancient winemaking heritage. These findings highlight Georgia\u2019s historic role as the cradle of viticulture and its continuous wine tradition since the Neolithic era.\n\nThe name \u201cRkatsiteli\u201d comes from two Georgian words: \u201crka\u201d (horn), referring to the cluster\u2019s shape, and \u201ctsiteli\u201d (red), describing the grape\u2019s slightly reddish-pink skin. Although it is classified as a white grape, this subtle pigment gives it a unique character and appearance.\n\nFor centuries, Rkatsiteli has been at the heart of Georgian culture and traditional winemaking, especially in the Kakheti region. It was a leading variety in royal wine cellars and remains essential in crafting both classic European-style wines and authentic Qvevri wines, produced in ancient clay vessels recognized by UNESCO. Rkatsiteli wines are valued for their crisp acidity, mineral structure, aromas of green apple, white peach, citrus, and gentle spices, along with impressive aging potential.\n\nDuring the 20th century, the grape spread beyond Georgia to regions such as Ukraine, Moldova, Bulgaria, and even the United States, particularly the Finger Lakes.
